Adulting Individual and Group Work (Fall 2021) for Young Adults 18-25 Developing Your Own Personal Rubric “Adulting: The practice of behaving in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially the accomplishment of mundane but necessary tasks.” But being an adult is so much more than finding a place to live, paying the bills and doing the laundry. Living independently is only one aspect. The game of life and of becoming your own person, independent of your family of origin or choice, and figuring out your purpose is typically without a playbook. As children and adolescents we had guides in the form of adult caregivers, teachers, mentors, and religious and community leaders. Graduation from one system typically led to the commencement of a new one. And with that commencement, new rules of engagement and guideposts. Now you’re an adult - what does that mean and what next? Let’s explore and develop a vision which is consistent with our authentic selves. Is what we are pursuing professionally, what we are experiencing in relationships, and developing in spirituality consistent in pursuit of our passions and in alignment with our values? It all begins with self exploration and a formulation of a sense of who we are in the world. In this workshop and group discussion we will identify key vision points to pursue as we connect the dots in our paths. We will engage in thought provoking questions about our authentic selves and give ourselves permission to know and to not know the answers. We will introduce ourselves to the process of exploring life with curiosity but also with intention. You are your own new guide. Let’s begin the journey.
